Hardware Manufacturing for Software People: Uncommon Communication FILLING

In all human relationships, communication is key.  It can be extremely difficult to accomplish a task with someone where you don’t share a common language; hardware development or manufacturing can seem like a different language to the uninitiated.
For anyone who has tried to build a robot, they’ve discovered the need to be proficient in “hardware” and “software” to effectively integrate all of the “components” together.  It can be extremely difficult to effectively communicate technical ideas with teams or individuals who do not share a similar technology background.
This highly interactive session will feature panelists representing hardware, software and manufacturing who have learned how to bridge the communication gaps across the disciplines.  We will look at a few different areas and their impact on getting hardware manufactured:
  • Patois (jargon) – Just as in everyday life, words mean different things to different people.  We’ll untangle it for you, so you’ll be better equipped to effectively communicate with those from a different technology background.
  • Process – Manufacturing, product design and software teams all employ very different release cycles to get a device out the door. Understanding these is critical for coordinating the release of a production-ready device.
  • Production – the language manufacturers speak and what they need to be successful for you
If you have an idea for a hardware product or are currently working  on a project headed toward production, but have very little experience in manufacturing, this session is for you, even if you aren’t a self-described “software person.”
