Doing business in China is brutal, even to locals. Concepts of volunteering, giving first, and growing communities are non-existent. Why would you want someone who has no connections, doesn't speak the language, barely understands the culture, try to grow startup ecosystems in the most populated country in the world?

That's the story of a Frenchman, living between Hong Kong and Shanghai, who has now the help of 200+ Community Builders to develop Techstars Startup Programs in over 18 cities in the region.

***This talk is part of the Basecamp Spotlight Series and corresponds to the Monday “The Art of Starting” theme for Basecamp. Please be sure to check out all of the Basecamp Spotlight talks throughout Boulder Startup Week and take advantage of these intimate conversations with community leaders in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Basecamp.***
