Chief Sustainability Officer

Kendra is a licensed Mechanical Engineer with over 15 years of experience in the corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors and is currently serving as the Chief Sustainability Officer for the City of Boulder. In that role, she manages the city's overall climate, energy and zero waste policies and programs. This includes exploring future carbon taxes and pricing mechanisms, as well as designing and piloting innovative new climate and energy programs, such as the local Energy Impact Offset Fund. Kendra is also leading efforts at the city to better integrate social, economic, and environmental sustainability and resilience.

Prior to joining the city, Kendra was a Principal at Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), leading the Buildings Practice team. At RMI, Kendra combined project management and technical expertise to drive many deep retrofit projects, and led the development of carbon neutral plans for large universities and Fortune 500 companies. In addition to her work in the built environment, Kendra also has over a decade of experience in industrial process efficiency, best practices for data center design and operation, and strategies to reduce emissions from the transportation sector. Kendra has a Master’s degree in Building Systems Engineering from the University of Colorado (Boulder) and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Dartmouth College.
