How to Become a Data Scientist
Limited Capacity filling up

It’s no coincidence that data science is one of the most in-demand jobs today. Data science problems can be found in almost every industry, but there is a lot of confusion and conflicting advice about the necessary skills to become a data scientist. In this session we'll interview three data scientists from different backgrounds and at different stages of their careers.

We’ll explore the followng topics and more during this panel:

Transitioning from academia to data science, and from software development to data science.
What are the key skills needed before finding your first data science job?
When is a data science bootcamp a good idea?
Are MOOCs helpful?
How long will it take to become a data scientist?
What tools to focus on (R vs Python)

Key Metrics for Startups: What to Measure and Why
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

What are the 5 metrics that your startup should be measuring? That depends on a range of factors, including the stage of your startup and the nature of your product. In this session, experienced business leaders will talk about how they approach and implement metrics and KPIs. You’ll walk away with a better understanding of how to make metrics work for your startup.

Seth Familian: Pirate Metrics: Measuring startup success in 5 steps
Growth hacker & data strategist Seth Familian will explain how any startup can measure its success using the “Pirate Metrics” funnel, which measures user acquisition, activation, retention, revenues, and referrals.  You’ll learn how Seth uses cloud-based tools like Google Analytics, Mixpanel, and Segment to measure core KPIs for each step in the funnel, and how to turn funnel insights into growth strategy for any business at any stage.

Analyze Boulder
Limited Capacity seats available

Analyze Boulder is a community of 2,600 data geeks who live, work, and play in Boulder, Colorado. Our members give fast, accessible, high-energy TED-style talks once a month on any data topic. Our lineup for our Boulder Startup Week Edition: Gary McClellan will present an analysis of recidivism data and bail decisions based on an algorithm showing (a) the algorithm isn't very good and (b) that it is dramatically biased against African-Americans. Janelle Shane will highlight results of neural network experiments gone delightfully wrong. Using silly datasets as examples, she'll talk about some ways that algorithms fail. Land Belenky will be presenting 'Art Guesser', an ensemble of convolutional neural networks trained to identify the style of famous works of art. We will start with social time / beer from 6-6:20pm, followed by the live event, and then we stick around and chat over beers afterwards. To see more details, please go to https://www.meetup.com/Analyze-Boulder/events/248736684/.

Data Engineering & Strategy
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Want to learn how to build the backbone of your data-driven startup? While it’s not as attention-getting as machine learning, experienced data scientists know that data engineering is an essential skill that lays the foundation for data products. For every neural network in production, there must be data engineering that orchestrates assembling and storing data, training huge models efficiently and reliably, running models in production, updating models in real time, and keeping data accessible. Come learn from the experts about best practices and tooling for data architecture, strategy, and engineering for startups.
